Frequently asked questions

See answers to frequently asked questions about plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures:

What is plastic surgery?

The word “plastic” in “plastic surgery” comes from a Greek word that means “to mold or shape”. It is the practice of reshaping body parts to improve their appearance or function. At Mountain Brook Plastic Surgery, we can help you achieve aesthetic results or address medical and physical needs. Thanks to our state-of-the-art equipment and expert surgeons, you can proceed with confidence.

What is recovery like after plastic surgery?

Our board-certified plastic surgeons will match the treatment to your needs and lifestyle, to help ensure excellent results and a faster recovery. You may experience some swelling or discomfort during the healing process. Full recovery could take a few days to a few weeks, depending on the procedure. Our nurses and patient care coordinators will walk you through each step of your recovery and schedule follow-ups to monitor progress.

What factors can affect my results?

General health plays an important part in your results and recovery. Skin health begins with hydration, rest, and limiting sun exposure. Also, patients who do not smoke report better results from their procedures. Skin that has been damaged over many years may be harder to heal. Mountain Brook Plastic Surgery only uses research-backed “best practices”, to help ensure safer and more consistent results.

Will insurance cover my procedure?

In most cases, insurance providers cover reconstructive surgery but not cosmetic procedures. Payment for non-covered procedures is required at the time of service. Our team has experience with many insurance plans, filing claims, and with helping patients get the most out of their coverage. If you have specific payment or coverage questions, please call us at 205-871-4440.
