
Jorge I. de la Torre, M.D., MSHA, MSHQS, FACS, is a professor and chief of the UAB Division of Plastic Surgery. He serves as program director for the Plastic Surgery Residency and Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship and is the founding director of the Center for Advanced Surgical Aesthetics at UAB.
Dr. de la Torre performs a wide range of aesthetic and reconstructive procedures, with clinical expertise in:
- Abdominoplasty
- Aesthetic and mastopexy breast procedures
- Body contouring after weight loss
- Facial rejuvenation
- Neuromodulator and soft tissue filler injections
- Liposuction, including laser-assisted techniques
He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, following undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He completed general surgery training at St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston and a plastic surgery residency at Nassau University Medical Center with the Long Island Plastic Surgery Group. He also completed a fellowship in aesthetic and breast surgery at UAB.
Dr. de la Torre is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, for which he serves as a senior examiner and advisory council member. He is an active educator and researcher who has contributed to national and international publications and conferences on aesthetic surgery.
Also, he participates in an outreach program in Honduras that provides surgical care to local residents.
